One day I met an old man who seemed he didn't care
His hair was long and dirty his clothes not fit to wear
My first thought was to pass him and ignore his lonely plight
But a feeling spun within me and I asked him so polite
What got you
in this mess sir I went on to say
Do you really have good reasons for ending up this way
Let me answer sir your question it shouldn't take much time
It' not the way I planned this and he laid it on the line
Bridge
No one counts the seconds they quickly tick away
Yet they turn into the minute you took for me today
And the hours to a daytime till the months just roll away
And the years into a lifetime and here I am today
As I listened
to his story a thought ran through my mind
When you look upon a headstone there's something you will find
The date you came into this world and the year that you depart
But the dash that's in the middle the most important part
It won't give
any details of a troubled life you lived
How many children that you had or the great things that you did
If we take our lives for granted the days and years will fly
When you get old it's then you'll learn that all we have is time
When we get old It's the we learn That all we had was time
